Middle School Youth Group Info
January, 2012
Happy New Year! We are all so excited for the start of Middle School Youth Group in 2012 and we are planning for it to happen on Wednesday, January 11 at 5:45! Youth Group will be back with all of the great games, food, skits, music, videos, contests and most importantly, Bible teaching that will help us live our lives for God. We really hope that you can plan to be with us every Wednesday night. And, be thinking about who you could invite to come to Youth Group with you.
Speaking of living for God, one of the best ways to know how he wants us to live is for us to be regularly reading the Bible. I find that I need a plan for what I am going to read, or else I’ll just
hop around reading a verse here and there, and then I might stop all together for a while. So here are a few Bible reading plans that might help you in the new year. All of them you can do along with the Quarter Hour of Power. One of my favorite plans is called, “The Bible reading plan for Slackers and Shirkers.” It gives you a different type of reading from the Bible for each day, and the cool thing about it is if you miss a day, and we all do, you can just start right from where you left off with out feeling super guilty for being behind. You can find it at: http://www.ransomfellowship.org/publications/notes_biblereadingprogram.pdf
A great site with access to many different types of Bible reading plans is www.youversion.com You can set up what you want to read and how you want to read it on line, this site will even read the Bible to you.
Or, if you’d like to read a daily devotional with a Scripture passage and a few helpful thoughts about it, here is a good one: http://www.yfc.org/columns/devopage.php
We youth leaders, really encourage you to start out 2012 spending time with God by reading his Word and praying to him and if you have any questions at all about getting started with it, or questions that come up as you are reading, we’d be happy to talk with you about that any time.
Bible Study for the new year is going to start up on Sunday, January 8 at 6:30. This is a great opportunity to come out to church and learn some more from God’s Word and to maybe think a little about some stuff that is a little too big for Youth Group time. If you haven’t been out yet on a Sunday night, you should come and give it a try.
Open gym and game show night at the Ipswich Y! On Saturday night, January 21 we’re going to the Y from 6:30-9:30, it is just $5 to get in and there will be swimming and all kinds of games in the gym and some fun minute to win it kinds of games too. It should be big huge fun, just plan to have your parents drop you off and pick you up there.
Attention 8th graders: If you are interested in going on our summer Mission Trip to Voice of Calvary Ministries, it is time to turn in an application. The trip is going to be July 13-23 and is a great opportunity to learn about God’s work in the inner city of Jackson, MS. We’ll have lots of opportunities to serve, work, share and learn from people there. Applications are available outside of the Youth Room, or I can e-mail one to you. They need to be turned in no later than Sunday, January 15.
Winter Camp is coming March 2-4!!
Winter Camp is a whole weekend in the mountains of New Hampshire at the same place where we have Deerwander in the summer. The weekend will be packed full with really fun games in the snow, crazy stuff in the Dynasium, tons of great food, and some helpful and challenging Bible lessons. You will totally want to be there with us.
