January, 2012 High School Youth Group Stuff
2012, wow, how is that happening, and as of the time I am writing this, there is no snow. What’s up with all of that? I am really looking forward to 2012 Youth Group Stuff. Coming up this month is our Survivor Winter Camp happening January 27-29. It is going to be a great time and I really hope that you can join us for it.
Coming up later in July will be our Mission trip to Voice of Calvary. We will be going there July 13-23 and it is an amazing opportunity to learn about the work of the Gospel in Jackson, MS. We’ll have tons of opportunities to serve and help others. If you want to go, you need to turn in an application no later than Sunday, January 15.
You can get one outside of the Youth Room, or I can e-mail one to you.
Also coming up really soon will be our Annual Broom Hockey Game with the Hamilton Congo Church. It’s always big fun and we are on a huge winning streak. You won ’t want to miss it.
As the new year is starting up, the best way to stay connected to God is to be regular about reading his Word, the Bible. There are lots of Bible reading plans out there, but if there is one thing that I have learned is that you (I) need to have a plan in order to consistently and regularly be reading the Bible. It is so easy to wonder where to read, having a plan will help. No body is perfect at this. We all fail, we all miss days, but the good news is that you can start up again right where you left off. Here are some plan options: Many of them you can set to just show up on your computer or your calendar.
Here are a few really good Bible reading options: The first one has a different type of reading for each day of the week and you can find it at http://www.ransomfellowship.org/publications/notes_biblereadingprogram.pdf
A great site with access to many different types of Bible reading plans is www.youversion.com You can set up what you want to read and how you want to read it on line, this site will even read the Bible to you.
Or, if you’d like to read a daily devotional with a Scripture passage and a few helpful thoughts about it, here is a good one: http://www.yfc.org/columns/devopage.php
We youth leaders, really encourage you to start out 2012 spending time with God by reading his Word and praying to him and if you have any questions at all about getting started with it, or questions that come up as you are reading, we’d be happy to talk with you about that any time.
Youth Group will be starting up for the year on Sunday, January 8 at 6:30. Join with us as we start up 2012! Is there someone you can bring with you to join us? We are going to finish up our “Weird” study and then we’ll be on to a totally new topic. Of course there’ll be food, activities, time to worship God and lots of other good stuff as well. Did I say Nicks?
Wednesday night Bible Study will be starting up on Wednesday, January 11, always a great opportunity to study God’s Word together and discuss some of the kinds of questions that are a little big for Sunday nights.
Sunday school at 9:30 on Sundays will be back to discussing the book of Philippians. It has been a little while since we have met, but it will be great to get back to regularly studying God’s Word together.
There are lots of ways to get info about what Youth Group is doing. You can like us on Facebook at High School Youth Group FPC Northshore, you can find us at www.fpcnorthshore.com you can e-mail Jon at iamthird@verizon.net and you can always make a phone call or send a text to 978-807-8932.
God’s Blessings on your 2012!
